Currently, Twitter is all about analyzing why Selena Gomez might have lip-synced her performance of “Wolves” at the 2017 AMAs. According to a several sources, Selena suffered a panic attack before taking the stage. Some adjustments allegedly had to be made to the acoustics, and this threw Gomez off. While it hasn’t been confirmed that Gomez did indeed lip-sync her performance, some think that it was due to this last-minute change. “They last minute had to put the stems in from her acoustic performance from her Instagram. That’s why her voice sounded autotuned and too perfect,” PopCultureFacts tweeted.
Selenators are coming to the singer’s defense, making the point that it’s incredible that Selena performed tonight, given that she allegedly suffered a panic attack before. Plus, she very recently had a kidney transplant, and on top of that, broke up with boyfriend The Weeknd. Gomez has had a YEAR, okay? “The fact that Selena had a panic attack before going on stage and then actually performing is both heartbreaking but shows just how strong she really is,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another wrote, “People are saying that Selena had a panic attack before going on stage and she still performed, please protect her at all costs, she deserves the world but the world doesn’t deserves her.”
In the past, the singer has opened up about her mental health before when she cancelled her Revival tour in 2016. Gomez spoke to Vogue, stating, “My self-esteem was shot. I was depressed, anxious. I started to have panic attacks right before getting onstage, or right after leaving the stage. Basically I felt I wasn’t good enough, wasn’t capable. I felt I wasn’t giving my fans anything, and they could see it—which, I think, was a complete distortion.”
