Lindsey Vonn's Oscars Gown Malfunction Forced Her to Cut Off Her Sleeves Minutes Before the Red Carpet
This Olympic medalist knows how to handle a fashion emergency.
Fresh off her Olympics bronze medal win, Lindsey Vonn got ready for her next big high-profile event: the Academy Awards!
But not without a few bumps — the alpine skier had a bit of a fashion emergency just minutes before walking the red carpet. In the hour before she was leaving for the Oscars, there was an issue with the sleeve of Vonn’s custom gown.
So what did she do? Stylist Jeff Kim cut off the sleeves of her dress entirely minutes before heading out the door of her Bel Air hotel room for the carpet with her date, sister Karin Kildow.
Hours before, Vonn shared the first draft of her gown, which clearly showed the black detailing on the sleeves of the originally created sketch.
“Pretty stressed out, high anxiety, but I made it down the red carpet so far without tripping and my outfit’s in one place so I’m happy,” Vonn told PEOPLE TV on the red carpet.
While Vonn has attended her fair share of red carpet events, she had never been a part of Hollywood’s biggest night.
“I’m out of my comfort zone. Definitely here, I just — it’s a lot,” she admitted. “The Oscars is such a big deal, I’m just trying to soak it all in and not mess it all up.”
And while she’s been able to compete in four Olympics in her decorated career, walking the red carpet is another level for her.
“Going fast is easy, this is like — what if my dress rips and my butt falls out?” she said.
Speaking of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements, Vonn expressed her support to all women both in and out of Hollywood.
“It’s an amazing time I think, to be a woman, and I think to stand up for ourselves,” she shared. “Everyone kind of coming together and supporting each other is amazing … to change the way we view women in the workplace and in life.”
The 90th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be broadcast live on the ABC Television Network at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
