Flight Attendant Breastfed a Passenger's Baby & the Heartwarming Story Is Going Viral
A flight attendant named Patrisha Organo is making headlines for her Facebook post, in which she details how she went above and beyond to help the mom and her little one in-flight.
Every parent knows that flying with a little one can be extremely challenging. But flying without breast milk or formula on hand to satiate a hungry baby makes for an especially stressful situation. That's exactly what happened to one mom when she was aboard a flight recently. Thankfully, a flight attendant named Patrisha Organo was able to help in a truly generous way.
Organo took to Facebook to share the heartwarming story: "Yesterday, I was scheduled for a check flight to be qualified as a Cabin Crew Evaluator. I thought that this flight’s gonna be so special as this is a big step on my flying career. Everything went smoothly until after take off, I heard an infant’s cry, a cry that will make you want to do anything to help."
She says she approached the mom and asked if everything was okay. "I tried to tell her to feed her hungry child," Organo wrote. "Teary-eyed, she told me that she ran out of formula milk. Passengers started looking and staring at the tiny, fragile crying infant. I felt a pinch in my heart. There’s no formula milk onboard. I thought to myself, 'There’s only one thing I could offer and that’s my own milk.'"
So, she offered. "Ms. Sheryl Villaflor, Line Administator on my flight, immediately assisted the mother to the galley where I breastfed the baby," Organo explained. "The baby started rooting, she was so hungry. I saw the relief on her mother’s eyes. I continued to feed the baby until she fell asleep. I escorted her back to her seat and just before I left, the mother sincerely thanked me."
She realized that she had been right—the flight was going to be special. "So special not only because I got qualified as an Evaluator but I got to help," she wrote. "I breastfed a stranger’s baby inflight. Thank you, Lord for the gift of mother’s milk."
The moving post has gone crazy viral, wracking up 6.6K comments and 30,889 shares since it was shared on November 7.
"You're a star. I hope your boss reads all these comments and understands how lucky he/she is to have you in the crew. Your dedication, wisdom and compassion are a one-in-a-million combination," one commenter wrote. Another said, "Awesome! Great job. That mother must have been so relieved. All the best to you in your career. I have a feeling you will go on to do more great things!"
It bears noting that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns using breast milk from another mother comes with risks and recommends consulting the child’s health care provider beforehand.
Of course, the relief that the flight attendant provided both this mom and her L.O. is beyond heartening. For this selfless, generous act, she absolutely deserves all the praise coming her way.
