Experience

Mikayla Morell is a content writer and editor residing in Philadelphia, PA. She began her career as a freelance writer while also working as a phlebotomist in a local hospital. She wanted to use her certification in phlebotomy to support the shortage of hospital staff throughout the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. She loves that she can combine her two main interests—writing and healthcare—in her work with Health.com.

Mikayla has 5+ years of experience in healthcare. In addition to phlebotomy, she also worked as a medical scribe and home health aide. Her experience in healthcare has been very patient focused; she has been able to see things from a physician point of view, and a patient point of view and she uses all of that knowledge at Health.com.

Mikayla is also a creative writer and spends her free time writing poetry and fiction. Her poetry has appeared in journals such as Brine Literary, Mosaic Art & Literary Journal, Underground Pool, and the Merrimack Review.

As someone who suffered from a delayed diagnosis at a young age, I am passionate about spreading reliable and accurate information to those who want to learn more about their health.

Education

Mikayla has Bachelor of Arts in creative writing from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. During her time there, she received the award for Literary Prize in Fiction and Poetry. She was also the recipient of the Aidan Doyle Memorial Scholarship. Additionally, during her summer break, she enrolled in a phlebotomy program where she became a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
