Experience

Kathleen (Katie) Li has been writing about science for a general audience for four years and conducting research for six. As both a writer and scientist, she aims to make health and science information easy to understand.

Katie's expertise ranges from research articles to brochures for community health fairs. She has been published in multiple scientific journals on topics such as genetic counseling and e-cigarette policy. Meanwhile, she has also been an editor at Tendon, the Johns Hopkins medical humanities magazine. Outside of these magazines, Katie created health awareness and informational materials with the Johns Hopkins Genetics and Public Health Medical Tutorial for the Baltimore community.

Knowledge is the cornerstone of health—people need to understand a treatment or intervention to give truly informed consent. But in the 21st century, the internet can either be a useful tool or perpetuate misinformation and misunderstandings.

Online health information must therefore be easy to understand and scientifically up to date. As a writer, scientist, and a future medial professional, I aim to create health education that is both well-researched and well-written.

Education

Katie has two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Public Health and Biology from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. She will also be attending the University of Cambridge to complete a Masters of Philosophy in Health, Medicine, and Society. To support her studies, she has been awarded the Wellcome Masters Programme Award in Humanities and Social Science.
