Experiment with makeup
Makeup can conceal irritated patches and make you less self-conscious. It's safe to use makeup any time, even during a flare, but look for products that are non-comedogenic, non-acnegenic, and fragrance free. And apply primer beforehand. "A primer creates a white background [making] everything even, so when you apply foundation it goes on smoothly," says Doris Day, MD, a dermatologist with Lenox Hill Hospital. "The pores are minimized and the skin is flawless."
