If you've ever been stuck in an airport, a train, or traffic on your way to a holiday destination, you know why some people celebrate big holidays with family at other times of the year. "When I moved to New York, the first time I went home for Christmas to Miami was the last time I ever tried it," says Florida teacher Leila Davis. "We're talking a six-hour delay and sleeping in Kennedy airport until the middle of the night." After that, the Davis family had a Christmas weekend in January for extended family. "This suited everyone," she says. "We still do a Christmas-in-January get together most years."
