Be cold-medication savvy

For adults, decongestants can help relieve cold symptoms, but don't combine products or take more than the recommended dose. Some can interfere with Rx drugs, such as antidepressants or high blood pressure medication. (Check with your pharmacist.) Nasal sprays should be used for short periods of time—generally no more than three days. Longer use can lead to a rebound effect in which nasal membranes swell even more.
