Researchers especially recommend rebounding for women, who are often at higher risk for functional disability and conditions like osteoporosis—it improves physical fitness and risk factors like bone health. It’s also a good option for anyone who may struggle with knee pain from exercise. Exercise trampolines can be just as effective as resistance training for improving knee muscle strength, according to a December 2019 study in Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport.

The specialty elastic bungee cords are rigorously tested to ensure you’ll get many years of use. At 40 inches wide, the size is in line with how large you’d expect a rebounder to be. Given the size, it’s no surprise that we felt supported during our workout. We never felt unbalanced or like the trampoline wouldn't support the weight.

Depending on your preferences, some might find this trampoline too firm. The surface felt harder on our feet and joints as the firm jumping pad makes it difficult actually to jump. Many turn to exercise trampolines as a low-impact exercise, so a firm surface could be counterproductive to those with fragile joints.

But, ultimately, we think it's a good buy for a solid workout.

In addition to the size, it’s well-built. The frame and suspension system is patent-pending for its stability and safe but quiet landing. This makes for an enjoyable experience. Because this trampoline is extremely sturdy, when we tried it, we felt like we were flying at one point.

It’s Worth Noting: Though it performed well during testing, our tester had some concerns about quality.

Coming in under $150, there’s a lot to like about this rebounder. In terms of performance, it fares well against the more premium models. This trampoline was totally silent when we tried it out. It was just as stable and supportive before and after our workout, too.

The heavy-duty steel frame and rubber feet ensure that the trampoline isn’t going anywhere in the middle of your workout. Instead of springs, this option uses bungees for softer landings that don’t impact the joints as much. Though we found it lightweight and easy to carry from one place to another, it’s very secure. It also has a wider jumping mat, which is good for beginners.

But we will say we found the jumping area a bit too thin for our liking.

We thoroughly enjoyed this trampoline for its bounce, quality, comfort, and portability. The landing from each repetition was fantastic when we gave it a try. It folds in half and comes with a carrying bag for easy storage and portability. Plus, it’s lightweight. "This trampoline is perfect for small spaces,” Roser says. Though the legs fold when not in use, they lock into place for security during your workouts.

The patented bungee system has roughly twice as many connectors as other models, ensuring a soft, silent landing. Exercising on hard surfaces can be difficult on the joints and bones, so people with certain health conditions may benefit from an exercise trampoline like this one. Exercising using a mini trampoline can help people with low bone density improve their balance, limb strength, and mobility, according to a December 2019 study in Clinical Interventions in Aging.

Though we found the Fit Bounce Pro sturdy and supportive overall, there was some noticeable shifting during workouts. At one point in the exercise, we felt a shift in the legs. Besides a little movement, it’s a great product.

When we tested it out, we found it to be very sturdy and large enough to handle almost any exercise we could think of.

If you’re looking for a fun way to work out, you’ll look forward to using this trampoline every day. You’re sure to get a lot of air time. We couldn't believe how high we could jump. It really made the workout so much fun. The bounciness could be a hurdle for beginners, but the included T-shaped bar is there for support.

The downsides? There aren’t many aside from the hefty price tag and overall heaviness. We found the jumping area more elevated than others. Coupled with the extra bounciness, those with low ceilings should be careful.

If you’re looking for some extra jumping area, this one boasts a 49-inch diameter. It was wide enough, and there was plenty of space for each workout. Plus, this trampoline was quiet and sturdy.

While some trampolines feel too rigid and others are too bouncy, we found this one to have a perfect balance. We think it's bouncy enough to jump high and sturdy enough to do stable squats.

Purchasers have the option of purchasing ultra-strong bungees to support weights up to 440 pounds. This is among the highest weight capacities we’ve seen. Though studies have shown that rebounding can benefit body composition, only a select few are sturdy enough to withstand a higher threshold of weight, including this one.

Using a rebounder for the first time can be intimidating. Your first thought might be, “Am I going to fall?” If you’re concerned about balance, our tester found this model extremely sturdy and comfortable. You can grab onto the bar at any time for support and balance, though we entirely trusted this trampoline.

After testing it out, we didn’t have any constructive feedback for this model. Everything was just right and at a great price, too. Still, some reviewers didn’t find this trampoline to be as foldable as described. Unfolding this model requires some disassembly, which isn’t practical after each workout.

Overall, it’s a solid option at an affordable price point. If you don’t mind the unique storage situation, it’s a sturdy trampoline that’s sure to make your workouts more enjoyable.

Our Testing Process

To determine the best exercise trampolines, a certified personal trainer and a group of testers inspected, used, and reviewed each model. The testing process was overseen by ISSA-certified personal trainer Andrew Billman, who led the trampoline workouts and inspected several models himself.

The testing process began with inspecting each trampoline before use. We took a close look at each trampoline to see if they were sturdy and well-made. After reviewing the trampoline for sturdiness and quality, we gave them a rigorous test run. Under the supervision of Billman, we performed the following exercises:

  • Squats
  • Jumping jacks
  • Low ski jumps
  • High knees

During use, we paid close attention to how the trampoline felt under our feet. We reviewed each model based on size, bounce, and quietness. We made note of whether they felt like the trampoline was shifting during each movement or if it felt secured to the floor.

What to Look for in an Exercise Trampoline

There are many exercise trampolines on the market, so to choose a solid one, we recommend considering the following criteria:

  • Quality
  • Quietness

Mini trampolines usually have a diameter of 40 inches, though the actual jumping area is a bit smaller. Some frames are as small as 39 inches, while others are as large as 55 inches. Having a large jumping area can give you added comfort and security, so you don’t feel like you’re going to fall off. “Larger trampolines give you the flexibility to do wider jumps,” Roser says. However, larger rebounders also take up more space.

The quality and sturdiness of the exercise trampolines we tested were of the highest importance. Before using them, our testers thoroughly inspected the models to ensure the legs were planted firmly in the ground and wouldn’t shift during use. They made sure they were level and stable. Rebounders with rubber feet and angled legs are typically the most secure—they’re not going to shift during your workout, even if you use the edges to do push-ups, for example. “Since you will be jumping on this repeatedly, you want to find a trampoline or rebounder that is sturdy and high quality,” Freutel says. “Cheap metal can bend or break, causing a pretty abrupt end to your workout.”

Choosing the right rebounder is kind of like a game of Goldilocks and the Three Bears—the level of tension and bounciness should feel just right. Each trampoline was tested for tension and whether the jumping surface felt too firm or too bouncy. If it’s too firm, you’ll have a hard time getting enough height between jumps. If it’s too bouncy, you’ll get too much height. Our top pick is adjustable, so you can change the level of tension to suit your preferences.

Most exercise trampolines are on the quieter side, but some reviews mention the noise level being quite high. If you don’t want others to hear your workouts, take this into consideration. The type of springs usually influences the noise levels, with bungees being among the quietest options.

Exercise machines like rebounders often come with weight restrictions. The models we tested have weight capacities between 220 and 450 pounds.

We tested options from $90 to $960, so the price of a good exercise trampoline varies greatly. On average, you can expect to pay $401 for a rebounder, but most we tested were in the $120 to $350 range.

Sportplus+ Indoor Trampoline: For the price, it’s a good option, but our tester had some reservations about stability. Though bouncing and landings were comfortable, parts of the trampoline were uneven.

FirstE 48" Foldable Fitness Trampoline: The large size made our tester feel secure and comfortable to move around with ease, but the tension was on the firmer size, so more effort is needed to get enough height.

Rebounders have been shown to have many benefits. A famous 1980 study conducted by NASA found that rebounding is more effective at increasing oxygen levels and applies less pressure to the legs and feet than jogging, making it a joint-friendly alternative to other types of cardio. It works multiple muscle groups, improves heart health, and may strengthen your bones, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

However, rebounding may not be for everyone. Those with foot and ankle injuries and pregnant people should consult their doctor before using an exercise trampoline, warns Roser. Some people also get dizzy from rebounding.

Is jumping on a trampoline good for weight loss? 

Rebounding can be a great addition to any weight loss program. It burns calories, increases your heart rate, and strengthens your muscles all in one. Studies have shown that mini trampoline usage positively affects overall health and is a beneficial training program for overweight individuals.

“Trampoline exercises are high intensity, fun, and great for your cardiovascular system as well as for the muscles of the legs, core, back, and arms,” says Freutel. “Since the fast-paced movements keep your heart rate elevated, it can be beneficial for weight loss due to the number of calories burned over a relatively short period of time—far more than going out for a leisurely walk or bike ride.”

“Rebounder” and “mini trampoline” are often used interchangeably, but there are slight differences. Both are small and portable, but rebounders are slightly smaller than exercise trampolines.
