Sonal Kumar, MD, MPH, is a gastroenterologist, hepatologist, and assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. She is also the Director of Clinical Hepatology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Her research primarily focuses on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease at the multidisciplinary GI obesity clinic where she leads trials in NAFLD.


Dr. Kumar graduated summa cum laude from Washington University before receiving her medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine. She completed a residency and internship in internal medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. She then went on to complete a gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital - Harvard University. During her fellowship, Dr. Kumar received her Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
