Edy’s Slow Churned Strawberry Ice Cream
($5.50 per 1.75 quarts)
The berry flavor here is nice and fresh, and strawberry preserves are swirled throughout. At just 110 calories and 3 grams of fat for a half cup, this one’s a very good deal.
Grade: A+
Breyers Double Churned Cookies & Cream Light Ice Cream
($5.29 per 1.75 quarts)
Breyers light ice cream isn’t as thick or creamy as their regular stuff, but we loved the fluffy texture, especially for only 120 calories and 4 grams of fat per half cup.
Grade: A
Häagen-Dazs Extra Rich Light Dutch Chocolate Ice Cream
($3.69 per pint)
This is a more decadent light ice cream, with 190 calories and 5 grams of fat per half cup. The chocolate is really rich too. It’s a must-have for PMS.
Grade: B+
Häagen-Dazs Low-Fat Dulce de Leche Frozen Yogurt
($3.69 per pint)
Of all of the fro-yo varieties we tried, this one’s the best. We loved the light texture and caramel swirls. One small problem: It’s not superlight on calories—190 per half cup—but it has only 2.5 grams of fat.
Grade: B
Paciugo Mediterranean Sea Salt Caramel Gelato
(Visit the Paciugo website for store locations; cups start at $2.99)
Salt intensifies flavor, and this delighful gelato is no exception. It tastes absolutely sinful—and it nearly is at 160 calories and 4.5 grams of fat for less than a half cup.
Grade: A
Häagen Dazs Brazilian Açai Berry Sorbet
(Available at select grocery stores, $4.99 for a pint)
We love this dense, flavorful sorbet. It packs in a punch of açai berry (which is a little bit like a blueberry and blackberry), and offers you 20% of your daily vitamin C needs at only 120 calories and 2 grams of fat per half cup.
Grade: A
PJ Madison’s Kashmir Cinnamon Organic Ice Cream
(Visit PJ Madison’s website for distributors; $3.99 to $4.69 for a pint)
This gelato-style ice cream definitely is a splurge, but if you’re going to go for it, why not pick something organic? This creamy cinnamon ice cream is USDA-certified organic, and the rich texture is completely satisfying. But at 190 calories and 11 grams of fat per half cup, make sure you don’t overindulge.

My favorite is Edy’s Loaded Cookie Dough–it’s still under 200 calories a serving (can’t remember exact), has a light/fluffy texture and tons of chocolate chips and cookie dough which makes it taste like a big indulgence.
I would have included something from Purely Decadent. Lower fat/calories, no cholesterol/lactose/artificial ingredients, and mostly organic.
Hmmm, healthy ice cream, what a concept!

This article is MISLEADING because who eats a half cup of ice cream? All these ice creams you listed are your normal beware of the fatty ice cream as they are normally mesaured per CUP, where the average person eats a bow consisting of 1-3 cups.
The unhealthiest part of ice cream is the sugar content, not the fat, so this article is useless.
Not to the mention all the bizarre additives they use to reduce calories. An ingredient list shouldn’t look like a purchase order for a chemistry lab. A+ my foot!
Agree with Michael. I would worry more about all the sugar in these “healthy” ice creams rather the fat. This list is crap
no vegan ice cream?
nondairy ice cream is where its at.
None of these are healthy. All they do is add a ton of air into these things. What you’re paying extra for is air.
The Paciugo sorbet is the best. Try the Lime Chili Mango.
You should really try <a href=”http://www.turtlemountain.com/”Turtle Mountain’s non dairy ice cream products. They are delicious and so much better for you than these milk based ones!
To All You Pot Belly Boys,
you guys are idiots…and I now know why you’re all fattis…because none of you adhere to the portion sizes noted here…(that’s about a half a small scoop)…where’s the zero calorie, good tasting ice cream? It exists…you were just too lazy to include it…healthy? I hardly think so…happy cholesteral counting…buy a scale, and/or a mirror!
Your truly,
Zack
Hey
we’re fat and we love it! Okay maybe we eat to soothe our souls, but so be it…our bellies lay over our belts, and our hearts work twice as hard as it has to…and why not? What the hell, we’re all gonna die some time…might as well eat this ice cream..it says its “healthy” for you, so indulge.
What an idiotic article.
Any non-fat REALLY GOOD chocolate frozen yogurt or ice cream out there. I haven’t found any yet
Why do you list ice cream? None of it is healthy, especially for people with heart disease. You should also make the distinction between regular fat and saturated fat as well as trans fat. Why not look for no fat, low sugar yogurt that tastes like ice cream and is much healthier. When I look on this site, I don’t expect to see food that I shouldn’t be eating.
You can do better. Thanks!

The container for Edy’s looks exactly like Dryers brand in CA. are they the same?
Are Edys brand and Dryerys in Ca. the same?
Edy’s and Dreyers are the same. For some reason it’s called Edy’s in the east and Dreyers in the west - I’m not making it up it says so on their website.
Ppl on this site are right, especially about the portion sizes. 120 calories isn’t much - especially considering that Haagen Daaz light is like 200+ - but no one eats only the 1/2 cup recommended and btw I weighed it once and it wasn’t even close to being a real half cup that you would measure out using a measuring cup!
Don’t get me wrong I love ice cream and I have a hard time processing/digesting fats so for me the very low fat ones are crucial but none the less they are an indulgence and shouldn’t be thought of as guilt free everyday fare. I noticed in another article you recommended eating half of an ice cream sandwich…give me a break!
For a treat though I have to say that Edy’s/Dreyers is of excellent quality, I absolutely love the creaminess of it as well as their huge flavour selection. I find Breyers light and non-fat to be very grainy and not that tasty.
I would also recomment checking out frozen yogurts, lots of great varieties out there. And if you like fruit try sorbets (not sherbets which are basically ice cream) sorbets are pretty much just frozen fruit purees and if there isn’t too much water and/or sugar added to them it makes them soooo rich. A punch in the gut of you’re favorite fruit’s flavour, really great stuff.
I definitely agree with Donald! I had heart bypass surgery and I am looking for things that are good for me not fatty ice cream like you have posted. Where is the good stuff?
