B. J. Kennedy, MD, MACP - Medical Oncology

Healthwise is grateful for many years of excellent reviews by Dr. Kennedy prior to his death in 2003. Dr. Kennedy was a well-known educator and clinical investigator in the field of Medical Oncology. He focused his efforts on the use of chemicals and hormones in the control and cure of a wide variety of cancers. Dr. Kennedy was an Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Emeritus Masonic Professor of Oncology at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis.

Dr. Kennedy was one of the leaders in establishing management therapies for breast cancer. He also initiated national efforts in chemotherapy for brain cancer and demonstrated the curability of advanced testis cancer. Dr. Kennedy is regarded as the Father of the specialty of Medical Oncology, and he stressed the importance of research of cancer in older persons (Geriatric Oncology).
