Lymphedema in deep vein thrombosis

content provided by Healthwise

The lymphatic system is a network of vessels, ducts, and nodes that drains and filters fluid (lymph) in the body. It also helps fight infection and destroy foreign substances, such as bacteria and viruses.

Lymphedema is a swelling that develops in an arm or leg because of blocked lymph fluid flow, which causes lymph fluid to collect in the tissue under the skin.

Lymphedema can be uncomfortable. It can also raise your risk of an infection in an arm or leg.
