Sex therapist and psychotherapist Sari Cooper, CSW, finds many of her patients on the dating scene are drinking a lot—in some cases because they have an STD and they're uncomfortable discussing it. Or else they're depressed and self-medicating. She says that kind of behavior gets in the way of clear communication and safe decision-making about sex issues, including STDs.
