Diabetes education can help you figure out how to control blood sugar by altering your food intake, says Gerald Bernstein, MD.
You need diabetes education to learn how to eat in a way that helps prevent complications, says Gerald Bernstein, MD, director of the diabetes management program at the Friedman Diabetes Institute at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. If you test your blood sugar and it's relatively high before you eat, you can alter your food intake accordingly. For example, you could eat one slice of bread instead two, he says.
