Blake, 48, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in his early 40s when he landed in the emergency room with what he thought was a stomach bug. He’s now on insulin and tests his blood sugar anywhere from four to eight times a day. People with type 2 diabetes who are not on insulin generally don’t have to test their blood sugar as frequently as those using insulin.
