Diabetes educators have more time than physicians to discuss all aspects of the disease, explains Gerald Bernstein, MD.

Certified diabetes educators are healthcare professionals (look for CDE after their name) who have received additional training and state certification to help diabetes patients. Among other things, they can teach you what to eat, how to test your blood sugar, when to inject insulin or how take other medication.
