Get flexible about family traditions

Too often, we get set on doing things because "that's the way they've always been done in our family," says therapist Hanks, who suggests that every time you start a new tradition, let go of an old one. Instead of trying to cram every food tradition into one night, why not skip Grandpa Ray's oyster stew on Christmas Eve (particularly if the children call it "phlegm balls") and downsize the traditional antipasti course and feast of seven fish. Everyone will be happier; as Hanks says: This is family bonding time, not family bondage!
